about

Abya Yala - 2010
Cristobal Rey Quintet
EARTH
South-American jazz folk, in a chamber quintet. Presented by the Chilean Fondart (national arts award) in 2010, and the first part of the "Sutil America" trilogy (subtle America), Cd + Dvd, the ensemble includes piano, clarinet, upright bass, violoncello and percussion. The cover by the artist Tatiana Alamos brings earth colors with crude textures, as a primary lecture of this "new land" called America. The foundation to get inspired and to start doing this triology was a reflexion about our America ,with all its mixtures and colors, trying to channel through the music the understanding about where we are right now in this globalized world.

about

Cristobal Rey Berlin, Germany

”My music is essentially based on the sensitivity and variability of my present. I do not play any so-called new-style music; I just have my way of improvising and composing. I do not differentiate between musical styles and trends; I play folk, classical, rock, jazz, and improvised tunes alike.” – Cristóbal Re ... more
